First, the regular drip coffeemakers. They drip water over ground coffee. They provide strong and fairly flavored coffee. This is the most common coffeemaker. A medium drip coffeemaker can brew 4-6 cups of coffee at a time. This kind of coffeemaker is enough for a family. If well-maintained, you can enjoy nice cups of coffee everyday.

Another type would be the vacuum coffee maker. This is considered to be the “Cinderella” among the coffeemakers. If you want a “good cup of coffee” then having a vacuum coffee maker would be the most advisable. It is believed to brew the most faithfully version. The first ever vacuum coffeemaker came from the brilliant mind of Inez H. Pierce. On August 27, 1930 in Chicago, Pierce thought of the idea of brewing coffee automatically by vacuuming it without using any liquid fuels or stove top burners.

Then, there’s the percolator which is known as the “frog” or the “ugly duckling”. Most coffee experts don't recommend using a percolator. It breaks the rules of accurate coffee brewing because it boils coffee and passes water several times through the grounds.

There is also a pod coffee maker that only makes one cup of coffee. Here, the coffee or tea pod is placed in the basket and water from the reservoir drips through the pod.

Also, there is the French Coffee Press that pushes coffee grounds to boiling water for richer, darker coffee. However, the main drawback to this style is the smaller capacity and the need to monitor cooktop brewing.

Espresso & Specialty Coffee Machines, on the other hand, are coffee machines that brew espresso, cappuccino or lattes. They are more expensive than ordinary coffee makers because of its other functions and advanced features. But if you like going to coffee shops and ordering such coffees, it would be more practical of owning one. It will not just save time, but money as well. And you have can have as many as you like.
